One for Every Thirty-Thousand

To prevent the abuse of power in the House of Representatives, the authors of the Constitution established that representatives would be elected every two years. This established a method of cleansing the House of corrupt and/or incompetent representatives, it was founders version of term limits.

They also wanted to the states to have an adequate number of representatives. They also felt that if the people were under represented it would lead to the establishment of an oligarchy of the corrupt self serving bureaucrats.

They unanimously supported George Washington's  proposal that there should initially be one representative for every Thirty Thousand.org
