Teaching the Principles of Individual Liberty and Personal Responsibility
Message from the Sheriff
To the Citizens of Lincoln County Missouri,
In the past week I have received numerous questions from citizens regarding my views on President Obama’s attacks on our Constitution; specifically our Second Amendment.
The Constitution was not created by our founding fathers to be an evolving document; rather, it was specifically drafted to be an everlasting document to prevent the downfall of our Democratic Government. Our Constitution is not a living, breathing document to be changed by Congress, the Office of President or anyone else, unless it is the will of the people.
In 1986, I volunteered to serve in the United States Army. The oath I took was “I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” Since 1986, I have taken a similar oath on four different occasions, which affirmed, “I do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Missouri”. The last time I swore to uphold these Constitutions was December 28, 2012, when I was sworn in as the Sheriff of Lincoln County.
As your Sheriff, I want you to know that it is my sworn duty, responsibility and privilege to protect your individual rights and liberties afforded and guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States of America and the Constitution of the State of Missouri.
Neither my deputies, nor I will stand by and allow federal encroachment upon rights and liberties, which are afforded and guaranteed to every citizen by our constitutions.
God Bless America and those who have sacrificed to defend these rights.
Sheriff John Cottle
