The Meaning of Equality

8575509676?profile=originalEveryone on the planet is unique as witnessed by the fact that no two individuals have the same finger prints. Each individual was born with a combination of strengths and weaknesses.

We come in all shapes and sizes and some of us possess great intellectual capacity while others do not. Some of us were blessed with exceptional physical ability and others have talents in music or art. Some of us have been blessed with many talents and others have relatively few, but we all have time and the opportunity to create goods and services that other people are willing to purchase.

The purpose of schools should be to help young people discover who they are and how they can best utilize their time and talent to compete in a free society.

The economic system embraced by our founders was based upon the idea that everyone should have the equal opportunity to compete for the bounties of life. They believed that no one should be given special benefits or privileges that would give them an advantage over their competition simply because they think their entitled to it.

In order to give a man a benefit he hasn't earned, we must first take something from the individual who earned it. The social program we call welfare,  steals the production of one man to provide benefits to another. This process violates the property rights of the individual providing the benefit and robs the other of the incentive to produce his own benefits. Both the individuals become victims of the system that redistributes the wealth and production of the first man to benefit the second.

The role of the government should be to prevent individuals and corporations from creating monopolies. Hence our Anti-Trust laws. When a monopoly is created the corporation has no competition and as a result the corporation has no incentive to produce better products at a lower price.

When laws are written which requires that children in the public schools be provided FREE milk, the government has created a monopoly for those that produce milk. If a law is passed that requires everyone to wear a seat belt, the government has created a monopoly for companies that manufacture seat belts.

Virtually every law passed by Congress gives one industry or corporation a potential monopoly. Those who benefit will line the pockets of the legislators with campaign contributions to close the deal.

  • Keith, it's called slavery by dependence.

This administration has been feeding and housing 40 million people in a reinforcement of the cradle-to-grave entitlement programming. I call it "programming" because that's exactly what it is. Programming generation after generation into this insidious Government "programming", that has existed for generations now and has so many people dependent on Government financial aid and assistance on a monthly basis. 40 million people, including illegal aliens who are totally dependent on Government AID.

Just watch out for more of this as this administration continues to bring in even more aliens to flood our voters registration system with new illegal voters through motor/voter registration identical to what the Obama administration is bringing about through his insane immigration reform.

It really doesn't need to be done; we just need to enforce the laws we have on the books. Instead, Obama's master plan is to allow illegal immigration to flood our country so as to assure voter support of his Government programs. He only wants to continue his type of "social reform" of our Government's hand-out policies to outlive his Presidency.

Here in Oregon our new Governor just signed into law a motor/voter bill that fits Obama's policies to a "T". We now can expect up 300,000 new registered Democratic voters. Except for one thing, what if they simply don't care to vote? I'm of half a mind to drop out of voting now. It's now becoming legal to be illegal, WTF?

God help us as this social disease called Obama continues to spread like a plague across our once powerful country; continuing down the road of Socialist dependency.

    • Actually Eric,

If we go by Mitt's numbers (47%), that works out to over 150 million people on some kind of government dependency program or another. Wow!

  • Booker T. Washington's classic Up From Slavery should be read by all Americans.  Then you would come across Chapter 2, Boyhood Days.  There you would come across the last 3 paragraphs.  This book is public domain, so you can read this chapter online.

Washington actually thought it was an advantage to black Americans NOT to have equality of opportunity?

Why??  Because he said this would necessitate blacks having to work harder than whites in order to secure the same benefits.  It would make them tougher.

As he said, it is not where you end up in life that matters, but what you had to go through in order to get there.

So for all of us who seek liberty,  We should rejoice with our struggles as it makes us better humans.

    • "So for all of us who seek liberty,  We should rejoice with our struggles as it makes us better humans."

      Agreed

    • Wow, where’s the whip …you do know it’s We The People (an external power) that freed the slaves, not unlike Moses freed Jews out of slavery in Egypt ...and within islime slavery is still "alive" and well.

  • It's simple as a bad pimple when you say;" I want equality; please make me a communist."

  • If equality was universal everyone would receive the same compensation for their labor. A medical doctor and a garbage man would receive equal pay. Does a person who picks 10 boxes of apples in a hour deserve more compensation than another individual who picks only 3 boxes per hour?

Should not a man's reward be equal to his production? Ideally a man should be able to set his own wages by determining how hard and how long he chooses to work.

  • People are just like animals; they can be trained and controlled. Some animals will not be controlled due to their nature to overcome the traps set before them by others. You're right; slavery or freedom I am not going to be a slave to this unconstitutional government so we keep fighting back.

  • Keith, this is nothing new; here is Plato on the subject.

Democracy... is a charming form of government, full of variety and disorder; and dispensing a sort of equality to equals and unequals alike.

    Plato

    • Like 2 wolves and a sheep voting what is for dinner!
