Jacksonian Democracy

Andrew Jackson lost his bid to become President in 1824 because he failed to win a sufficient number of electoral votes. He received 99 votes, but failed to obtain 131 electoral votes needed to win the election.

He was determined to run again in 1828 and tried to proposed an amendment to abolish the electoral college. He was an advocate for converting our republic into a democracy,

  • Democracy is Mob Rule in which 51% of the people make the rules for everyone else.  In our constitutional republic the rights of the minority, even a minority of one, are protected and secured.
