Borrowing money to fund the government is a bad idea and passing a Balanced Budget Amendment is not the solution.
The Constitution clearly authorizes Congress to spend money to pay the nation's debts, provide for our common defense and to promote the general welfare. If Congress limited spending money only on these areas, government spending would be dramatically reduced and the necessity to borrow money would disappear.
We don't need to balance the budget, we need to shrink the budget, The best way to accomplish this goal is stop borrowing money to fund unconstitutional programs and projects.
When we spend more money than we have, we commit a crime, but when our government does it they are simply raising the debt ceiling.
