Natural Law

In the Declaration of Independence when Thomas Jefferson made reference to the Laws of Nature and Mature's God, he was talking about Natural Law or the laws that govern the Universe, These laws are what make up what is known and English Common Law. These laws were given to man as an endowment by our Creator and can not be violated, amended or ignored without serious consequences.

When man created government a new type of law was created that sought to amend the Laws of Nature and Nature's God. These new laws created what is known as Civil Rights. These rights are not given us by God, they are privileges granted to a people by those that control their society.

These so called rights are given to the people by the state are not based on the principles of Natural Law. Natural Law prohibits a man from injuring another man's life, liberty or property, while Civil Law demands that a man can not discriminate on the basis of another man's race, religion or sexual orientation.

One of our unalienable rights is to contract. In words if two individuals want to enter into a contract, both parties must come to an agreement. Either party has a right to accept or reject the other man's offer. Civil Law abridges our right to contract, by compelling one of the parties to yield to the other.

Natural Law is based upon voluntary compliance while Civil Law compels individuals to do things against their will. Natural Law encourages people to respect the lives, liberty and property of others while Civil Law compels them to do so or else. In a free society people should do not be compelled to do things against their will.

It is not the proper role of government to control the people, it is the role of the people to control their government. Laws should punish individuals who violate the natural rights of others, they should not be used to control the lives and liberty of the people.

Laws are either just or they are not. Laws that are just comply with Natural Law while those that do not are unjust and repugnant in the sight of our Creator.
