Lincoln's Legacy

Contrary to what you have been taught Abraham Lincoln did not free the slaves and he did not save the Union. Before the Civil War the Unite States was not a nation, it was a union of 34 sovereign states. The Federal Government was the servant of the states and the people.

After the war ended the United States government became the master and the states and the people became  their subjects. Before the war the people had rights and after the war these rights became priviliges granted to the people by the central government.

Rather than granting freedom to the slaves, Lincoln transferred the ownership of the slaves from the southern plantation owners to the federal government. Instead of recieving their housing, food, clothing and health care from the plantation owners they  began receiving these benefits from the central government.

Instead of elevating the blacks, Lincoln managed to demote the whites into debt slavery
