State Representation - Equal Suffrage

Of the principle applies to representation of counties in their state legislatures why does it not apply to the states in the Senate of the United States? In Congress the people are represented in the House of Representatives are the states are represented in the Senate. At the state level, the state legislature was also divided into two house. One body was to represent the people and the other to represent the counties.

The Constitution of each of the states established how the representatives in their states would be chosen. The Supreme Court has no authority to dictate to the states on issues outside of their jurisdiction. It is ultimately, the right of the people of the states to make the decision on how they will be represented.

Wyoming has a population of 576,412 ,but has the same number of Senators as California which has a population of 38,041,430. The voters in Wyoming are entitled to one vote for every 288,206 people while California is entitled to one vote for every 19,020,710 people. If the principle of one person is applied to the counties why does it not apply to the representation in the U.S. Senate?

If representation in the U.S. Senate was patterned after the model used in the states, California would have more senators than the combined total representing Alabama, Missouri, Arkansas, Georgia and Florida.

.

One voter in Wyoming would have as much say as 600 California voters in the U.S. Senate. In Los Angeles County there are 11 state senators and 24 representatives while El Dorado, Alpine, Placer, Sierra, Siskiyou, Plumas, Lassen, Modoc and Nevada Counties have just one senator and eight representatives.

If representation in the U.S. Senate was patterned after the model used in the states, California would have more senators than the combined total representing Alabama, Missouri, Arkansas, Georgia and Florida.
